San Diego Circus Center offers recreational classes for youth ages 8-12, as well a Youth Intensive course designed for highly dedicated students, looking to go above and beyond recreational classes.
First time students should begin with a specified Youth class, however, based on the student’s skill level, they may be welcomed to participate in other age appropriate classes that we offer; please contact the front desk if interested.
YOUTH CIRCUS ( Age 8-12 years )
In this fun filled, action packed class students will learn the basics of circus arts, including Tumbling, Trapeze, Aerial Silks and Partner Acrobatics and more. In doing so, students will gain spatial awareness and the ability to manage their body with confidence. Circus helps build a foundation for muscle strength, flexibility, balance, coordination and posture.
This exciting and enriching program is designed to nurture each student’s self-esteem and foster self-discipline, creative thinking, trust and teamwork. We provide a supportive environment that encourages students to have the confidence to try new things and to believe in their own abilities as they express their talents and have fun both on the ground and in the air. In this setting, students learn not only to strengthen their physical bodies, but also to build lasting friendships with their peers and teacher.
YOUTH SILKS ( Age 8-12 years )
Aerial silks is an athletic circus art discipline. It involves paired lengths of fabric hung from above that are climbed, wrapped around the body, and/or tied to create dramatic drops, poses and movement above the ground. Participation in aerial silks helps to build strength, flexibility, coordination and balance.
YOUTH TRAPEZE ( Age 8-15 years )
Static Trapeze training is an important building block in creating a solid foundation for any aerialist. Studying acrobatic figures on the static trapeze is not only creatively fulfilling but also a strong part of a core conditioning experience that allows for progression onto the silks, straps, aerial hoop (lyra) and duo trapeze. During static single Trapeze classes the student will perform a variety of strenuous conditioning exercises and expand their movement/trick vocabulary.
YOUTH PARKOUR ( Age 8-15 years )
Parkour is the activity or sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing. At San Diego Circus Center, we use Parkour to discover acrobatic movement.
YOUTH TRAMPOLINE ( Age 8-15 years )
In this class we will train the fundamentals of trampoline technique. Class exercises will focus on increasing foot articulation, developing an awareness of body positioning throughout space, and building a sense of trust and respect for the apparatus.
